Try backpacking Mount Joffrey near Manicouagan,Quebec, alone. From New YOrk City, ,4 days up , 5 days hike and camping sauvage, 4 days home,1 day at home to reflect and get back into the city mindframe.Don't know what it will do for the cliches, but it does wonders for clearing out brain cobwebs.
ps: I was at the Pittsburgh Carnegie Museum today and the girl behind the desk was reading The Creative License! I was like, oooh! hi Danny! and waved at it. It was awesome.
So that's what all this has been about. It's like writing your will on your death bed, is it? Fix it/us/EDM all up and then just shoot off and leave us, huh!? Well...
good luck! So much of what you say reminds me of me! (only on a far less global scale). You are an 'explorer' architype. So go off and explore! But, remember it doesn't necessarily mean you have to leave completely!
I've been feeling the same way lately, Danny. I even dreamed that a friend gave me an old, scuffed alligator satchel, which I loved, and when I showed it to Audrey Hepburn, she loved it! I figure that I'm ready to travel these days but I need to go lightly. I'll take my journal and pens, of course, as I'm sure you will. Traveling mercies, and bring back stories--with pictures!
Try going to Costa Rica. You probably won't be able to sketch while swinging thru' the cloud forest trees on a "zip line" - but, the experience will be great!
Good luck Danny. Sounds like you've packed your sense of adventure. Have fun and let us know about the next big thing! I've really enjoyed going along for the ride on your blog, pod casts, book ect. Thanks for sharing and all your encouragement. Hope to hear form you when you get settled into your new creative area!!!
I wonder why you feel like this, you seem to have so much success and approval in your life? I'm really interested to hear where your journey takes you and if you find what you are looking for. And BTW you look cute in that cap and glasses :)!
It does sound as though you have a snow globe in your hand... and are itching to shake it again. That's right, to let that snow settle is the first step toward complacency (and mental sclerosis?!). Thank you for the constant inspiration, Danny.
Liked the cartoon a lot. It was like American Splendor but without Harvey Pekar. Get away? The zen people say "If you can't find it here, you can't find it."
I think we all need to do just what you are doing from time to time...regroup, reassess our priorities. Just wish I could illustrate those feelings as well as you do. Thanks...
HI Danny, Paul and I bought Creative License over the weekend at a bookshop in LA and we both agree that the insights on each page on their own, each, alone would have been worth the book's price. Thank you so much for putting it together.
They only thing that's bothering me is that all this profound material "seemed" to come unseen out of no where. I've been reading your blog since EDM was just published and I remember your asking readers for their reasons for creating when you were developing CL content. And then, in what seemed to me like a few short months, this massive amount of quality essays and articles appears (beautifully) in the new book?! How!!?? I don't recognize any of it from the blog posts and I understood you were directing ads during that same time frame and taking gee-tar lessons, etc. So I'm scratch heading over here as to where you developed the book and or why it wasn't developed via your blog?
An old friend of mine, an Orthodox Bishop, says that occasionally he needs to stop and let his soul catch up to him. Perhaps that's what you're needing, too...
A record of my exploration into all aspects of drawing, illustrated journaling, creativity, and the inspiring aspects of art. By the author of "Everyday Matters," "The Creative License", and "An Illustrated Life" and other books.

I don't know if everyone will understand, but I do! Taking a bit of a break with LOW pressure can be a very very good thing. Chill and enjoy!

Thanks for the launch.
I like the shake-em-up ideas at www.creativethink.com and I think you might, too.

My Grandma always said, "Don't point with your fork."
Of course, there were 17 of us grandkids and a fork fight was to be avoided at all costs.

Sounds like you're a brilliant Renassaince Soul. Take a rest, don't feel an ounce of guilt about your time away, fill the well and come back...or not.
