Holy MolySeptember 18, 2008
. While I like to look at them, I have never particularly enjoyed participating in collaborative art projects like artist's trading cards. However, watching this video of France Belleville opening a package made me understand the fun of it all a lot better. France, as you may know, keeps a beautiful illustrated journal in her moleskine, so beautiful that I am am delighted to include it in my new book, An Illustrated Life. France and a bunch of pals around the world are collaborating on a series of accordion-style moleskine journals in a project they call, Moly_x_12. There are all sorts of rules associated with the project, presumably to keep it interesting and surprising. When I stumbled across this project (and after shaking off the bewildered pain and resentment of not being invited to participate), I spent quite some time on the blog of one of the artists whose work I'd missed out on seeing before: |

I am laughing because I just ran across Andrea Joseph and the moleskin project last week and fell in love with her skills and imagination. She is jaw-dropping amazing ... I can barely sign my name with a Bic.

What a wonderful way to start my computer crawl before heading to the post office. Just simply fascinating. Danny, you have a good thing going here. This is what gets people motivated to scratch away. To the artists, I say "Thank you for your efforts".

I´ve been following Andrea Joseph´s work for some years now. She always amazes me and she must have tons of patience.
"(and after shaking off the bewildered pain and resentment of not being invited to participate)"
you shouldn´t have mentioned that. ;)
"(But don't invite me, I'm too busy shipping for Bics)."
Once you need/want an invitation, consider yourself invited! :D

Impressive stuff here! You should consider it Danny. I'm doing a couple right now and the great thing is you get other people's original work in your book. I'm thinking of starting one soon, so if I do, I'll let you know (if you are at all interested). As for ATCs, again, it's really cool to get other people's art, and the size of the work has an element of charm - like aquiring your own mini-gallery. I've cooled down on the ATCs though - just not enough time in the day. Maybe again soon.
